{"id":184174,"date":"2025-06-09T12:26:50","date_gmt":"2025-06-09T11:26:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aviationbusinessnews.com\/?p=184174"},"modified":"2025-06-09T12:26:50","modified_gmt":"2025-06-09T11:26:50","slug":"hactl-launches-phase-2-of-ai-powered-heat-detection-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aviationbusinessnews.com\/cargo\/cargo-news\/hactl-launches-phase-2-of-ai-powered-heat-detection-system\/","title":{"rendered":"Hactl launches Phase 2 of AI-powered heat detection system"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"80\" data-end=\"293\">Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) has rolled out Phase 2 of its intelligent cargo thermal detection system at SuperTerminal 1, strengthening safety measures at the city&#8217;s busiest independent cargo hub.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"295\" data-end=\"631\">Building on the initial phase launched in December 2023 &#8211; which introduced thermal scanning of cargo immediately before aircraft loading &#8211; this latest upgrade now extends thermal monitoring to bulk cargo during acceptance.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"295\" data-end=\"631\">Hactl says the enhancement provides an added layer of protection for its facilities, customers, staff, and air cargo.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"633\" data-end=\"1069\">The system, which is said to be a world-first application in the cargo handling sector, integrates advanced thermal imaging, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, AI and data analytics to overcome the limitations of conventional heat detection methods. It provides real-time temperature monitoring and flags anomalies such as elevated heat signatures that may indicate fire hazards, including those associated with lithium battery shipments.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1071\" data-end=\"1249\">By enabling earlier detection of high-risk cargo, Hactl says the system helps mitigate potential threats and financial losses for stakeholders across the airfreight supply chain.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1251\" data-end=\"1409\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">The company\u2019s next step will involve applying the technology to export prepacked cargo during acceptance, further broadening its thermal surveillance network.<\/p>\n<p>Kenneth Chan, Hactl&#8217;s executive director for engineering and facilities services, said: &#8220;Once again <a href=\"http:\/\/hactl.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hactl<\/a> is showing the way to the future through the implementation of this next phase of its intelligent cargo thermal detection system.
