{"id":183982,"date":"2025-05-28T08:15:36","date_gmt":"2025-05-28T07:15:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aviationbusinessnews.com\/?p=183982"},"modified":"2025-05-27T17:13:07","modified_gmt":"2025-05-27T16:13:07","slug":"e-commerce-surge-and-exports-power-cargo-first-to-record-growth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aviationbusinessnews.com\/cargo\/cargo-news\/e-commerce-surge-and-exports-power-cargo-first-to-record-growth\/","title":{"rendered":"E-commerce surge and exports power Cargo First to record growth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bournemouth Airport\u2019s dedicated cargo division, Cargo First, has reported a record year, handling 31,000 tonnes of freight in the 12 months to March 2025 &#8211; up from 18,000 tonnes the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>The milestone ranks Bournemouth eighth among UK airfreight airports.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"420\" data-end=\"687\">The surge was driven by rising e-commerce imports and a doubling of UK export volumes in early 2025, particularly high-value manufactured goods.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"420\" data-end=\"687\">As operations grow, Cargo First expects to employ around 80 staff by the summer, with more jobs added across airport services.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"689\" data-end=\"943\">Growth is set to continue with a new 35,000 sq ft cargo facility planned as part of a \u00a360 million airport investment. This will approximately double the operation\u2019s Customs-bonded warehouse capacity and forms part of a significant development which will also deliver new airside facilities purpose-built for handling cargo aircraft this year.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"689\" data-end=\"943\">Launched in 2022, Cargo First has quickly positioned Bournemouth as a faster, less congested alternative to London\u2019s major freight hubs.<\/p>\n<p>Stephen Gill, managing director of Bournemouth Airport, said: \u201cWe are incredibly proud of what the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cargofirst.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cargo First<\/a> team has achieved. To record our best-ever year is a testament to the hard work of everyone involved.
