{"id":183818,"date":"2025-05-19T12:46:28","date_gmt":"2025-05-19T11:46:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aviationbusinessnews.com\/?p=183818"},"modified":"2025-05-19T12:46:28","modified_gmt":"2025-05-19T11:46:28","slug":"new-direct-air-cargo-corridor-opens-between-china-and-scotland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aviationbusinessnews.com\/cargo\/cargo-news\/new-direct-air-cargo-corridor-opens-between-china-and-scotland\/","title":{"rendered":"New direct air cargo corridor opens between China and Scotland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\" data-start=\"145\" data-end=\"357\">China Southern Air Logistics and Glasgow Prestwick Airport have launched the first-ever direct scheduled freighter service between China and Scotland, marking a major milestone in the UK\u2019s air cargo connectivity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"359\" data-end=\"515\">The new agreement establishes four scheduled cargo flights per week between the two countries, with plans to scale up to a daily service in the near future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"517\" data-end=\"693\">This partnership will effectively double Glasgow Prestwick Airport\u2019s current number of scheduled freighter operations, boosting its role as a key logistics hub for international trade.<\/p>\n<p>Glasgow Prestwick Airport&#8217;s chief executive, Ian Forgie, said: &#8220;This is welcome news. The airport team have been working hard over the last 12 months to showcase the Prestwick solution as an alternative Cargo gateway into the UK, and the board is delighted that a flagship carrier China Southern Air Logistics has established a scheduled service from China to Prestwick.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe anticipate this new trade route will grow rapidly in 2025 as Prestwick delivers on its plans and the market responds to an alternative Cargo gateway into the UK and a new direct export route to China from Scotland for high value Scottish seafood and Whisky.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are in discussions with other airlines and expect to make further announcements soon.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Glasgow Prestwick Airport has invested \u00a32.3 million in equipment in the last 12 months and is continuing to invest in ground handling equipment and cool chain supply facilities as well as employing more staff, to maximise its capabilities in handling large freighters.<\/p>\n<p>Colin Dai, the airport\u2019s country sales director for Greater China, said: \u201cThe airport has a long history and reputation for handling widebodied freighters, providing fast aircraft turnaround and cargo handling, delivered through our in-house team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud to announce this landmark agreement between China Southern Air Logistics and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowprestwick.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"
