{"id":183348,"date":"2025-04-23T15:16:22","date_gmt":"2025-04-23T14:16:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aviationbusinessnews.com\/?p=183348"},"modified":"2025-04-23T15:16:22","modified_gmt":"2025-04-23T14:16:22","slug":"new-twin-bay-mro-hangar-takes-shape-at-teesside-international-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aviationbusinessnews.com\/mro\/latest-news-mro\/new-twin-bay-mro-hangar-takes-shape-at-teesside-international-airport\/","title":{"rendered":"New twin-bay MRO hangar takes shape at Teesside International Airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\" data-start=\"225\" data-end=\"434\">Construction is well underway on a major new twin-bay hangar at Teesside International Airport, marking a significant milestone for Willis Aviation Services Limited (WASL) and its rapidly expanding operations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"436\" data-end=\"768\">The 50-foot-tall, 100m x 50m hangar is rising on the airport\u2019s north side and will be fully equipped to accommodate Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 family aircraft, including next-generation variants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"436\" data-end=\"768\">This latest development builds on WASL\u2019s existing presence at Teesside and underscores the company\u2019s long-term commitment to the region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"770\" data-end=\"976\">The new facility is expected to generate a substantial number of highly-skilled aviation jobs, reinforcing Teesside&#8217;s status as a growing hub for aircraft MRO activities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"978\" data-end=\"1237\">Backing the project, the Tees Valley Mayor and Combined Authority Cabinet have approved a \u00a312.5 million infrastructure investment package. The funding will support key developments around the airport, including roads and taxiways to serve the new WASL hangar.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1239\" data-end=\"1561\">In a further boost to Teesside\u2019s aviation ambitions, plans have also been submitted for an additional hangar to support the work of aviation and technology firm Draken. The facility is intended to aid RAF fighter training, enhancing the airport\u2019s role as a strategic site for both commercial and defence aviation services.<\/p>\n<p>Tees Valley Mayor, Ben Houchen, said: \u201cIt\u2019s great to see steel in the ground and even more progress roaring ahead at our airport site. WASL have been brilliant supporters of our airport and it\u2019s wonderful to see their businesses thrive \u2013 with this expansion creating even more well-paid jobs for local people. And it\u2019s also pleasing to see plans moving forward for Draken to secure their vital place on Teesside.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Houchen added: \u201cHoliday flights are important \u2013 and to have Malaga back in its rightful place on our departure boards is a huge boost. It\u2019s also crucial we continue to attract more routes, too. But we\u2019re also ramping up our business park and investing to secure vital income for the airport through landing fees, rent, and jobs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy backing businesses in Airbourne Colours, WASL, Draken \u2013 and attracting others \u2013 we\u2019re forging new careers and we\u2019re laying the groundwork to attract even more international companies to our airport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>WASL have had long-term ambitions to expand their operations at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teessideinternational.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Teesside International Airport<\/a>. Jet Centre by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wlfc.global\/services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WASL<\/a> offers a full range of ground handling services for business, private aviation, military, and cargo flights.<\/p>\n<p>Phil Forster, Teesside International Airport&#8217;s managing director, said: \u201cWe have fantastic transport links, a unique location in the heart of the UK and the benefits of Freeport status. It all means Teesside Airport Business Park offers major advantages for companies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWASL have been loyal supporters and partners of the airport for many years and it\u2019s great to see them grow and cement their place here with this new facility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith new long-term agreements at our airport, it means we\u2019re really gaining a reputation as a viable one-stop shop for airline maintenance, repair and operations overhaul.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Austin C.
