Perhaps unsurprisingly, it discusses how regional air transport sustains thousands of jobs, generates economic growth and provides welfare by strengthening Europe\u2019s connectivity \u2013 particularly in remote and underserved areas \u2013 as well as contributing to Europe\u2019s ambitious decarbonisation targets.<\/p>\n<p data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Montserrat Barriga,\u00a0ERA\u00a0Director General, said: \u201cRegional aviation is essential for Europe\u2019s economic resilience, social cohesion and environmental progress. This\u00a0report\u00a0impressively showcases the importance of regional airlines, connecting Europe\u2019s most remote areas while contributing to European decarbonisation goals. As Europe looks to the future,\u00a0ERA\u00a0remains committed to advocating for fair policies and strategic investments that will support the long-term sustainability of regional airlines and the communities they serve.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p aria-hidden=\"true\">\n<p>Key findings from the\u00a0<span class=\"marky1mtzf7gz\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">report<\/span>\u00a0include:<\/p>\n<p aria-hidden=\"true\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Economic impact:<\/strong>\u00a0In 2023, regional air transport supported 335,100 jobs and generated \u20ac23.1bn in GVA across Europe through its direct, indirect and induced effects. Additionally, regional aviation enabled tourism that contributed a further 4.5 million jobs and \u20ac205bn in GVA.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Social contribution:<\/strong>\u00a0Regional airlines are vital lifelines for remote communities, facilitating access to essential services such as healthcare, education and employment. For instance, in Denmark\u2019s Bornholm Island, Corsica, the smaller Canary Islands or Scotland\u2019s Orkney Islands amongst others, air links are crucial for transporting patients, medical professionals and emergency supplies.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Environmental leadership:<\/strong>\u00a0Regional airlines are already leveraging fuel-efficient turboprop aircraft, which emit up to 45 per cent less CO\u2082 than jets on very short routes like island hopping, as well as efficient regional jets, and pioneering sustainable initiatives to reduce their environmental footprint.
