Iberia Maintenance has added the maintenance of wheels and brakes for the Airbus A321XLR to its list of capabilities.<\/p>\n

This advancement positions the company as one of the few workshops globally certified to carry out these tasks on the modern narrowbody aircraft.<\/p>\n

Iberia Maintenance says the addition enhances its portfolio which includes over 4,400 capabilities across various technologies in component workshops, such as hydraulics, nacelles, IDGs, and engine accessories.<\/p>\n

Located in La Mu\u00f1oza, Madrid, its 20,000 sqm facility operates more than 10 production lines specialising in the repair and overhaul of components, mainly for Airbus fleets.<\/p>\n

The company\u2019s investments reflect its commitment to operational excellence. Iberia Maintenance has dedicated over \u20ac10 million to high-rotation inventory items, such as wheels and brakes, ensuring uninterrupted service to airlines in Southern Europe. In 2024, the La Mu\u00f1oza facility is projected to certify over 29,000 components.<\/p>\n

Jose Maria Merino, senior manager of components at Iberia Maintenance, said: “These achievements reinforce our vision for the future of Iberia Maintenance, where we are making great strides towards the modernisation and sustainable development of the MRO business while reaffirming our commitment to remain the centre of reference in aeronautical maintenance in Southern Europe.”<\/p>\n

Iberia was the world-launching airline for the A321XLR, which boasts a range of 7,500 kilometers, incorporating the aircraft into its fleet in November 2024.<\/p>\n

Advancing training for the A321XLR<\/h5>\n

Beyond technical capabilities, Iberia Maintenance<\/a> has developed a specialised training course on the A321XLR through its Training Centre. Created in collaboration with Airbus, the course focuses on key differences between the A321neo and A321XLR, such as the innovative fuel system and the introduction of electronic tail rudder control in the A320 family.<\/p>\n

This training has drawn industry interest, with organisations like British Airways MRO already utilising it to upskill their teams. The Spanish Aviation Safety Agency (AESA) has also mandated this training due to its comprehensive coverage of new features, reinforcing Iberia Maintenance’s reputation for innovation and leadership.<\/p>\n
